About Us

Welcome to the Montgomery County Literacy Project! MCLP is fortunate to have an office at St. Ann’s Church on 37 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

We are a non-profit organization that was established in 1986 by Judge Franklin Wendell. The locations have changed, along with the students, tutors and directors, but the mission remains the same. MCLP offers free tutoring services to adults, 18 and older, in Montgomery County, who are seeking to improve their literacy skills in reading, writing, and/or math. We also support those who are interested in obtaining their high school equivalency (TASC) and those who are seeking to improve their English as a Second Language (ESL) skills. Recently we have added career path testing to help individuals focus on jobs that utilize their areas of strength. We believe literacy is a human right and a tool of personal empowerment—let us assist you in achieving your goals!

We always have room for new students and tutors as well!
